About the design team
patterhn design
The collaboration between Eric Hoffman and Tony Patterson began while both were pursuing post-professional graduate education at Washington University’s Graduate School of Architecture. Within the academic forum, they quickly discovered a mutual respect and appreciation for the others complementary skill set. Sharing a common passion for learning, teaching, sketching, architecture and design, their collaboration continues as patterhndesign in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Eric R. Hoffman
MArch, Washington University in Saint Louis
BArch, Oklahoma State University
Eric Hoffman received his formative education and first professional degree from Oklahoma State University’s School of Architecture where he graduated cum laude in 1999. Then relocating to Minneapolis, Eric collaborated on the Walker Art Center expansion and remodeling with his previous office, Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, and the Pritzker Prize-winning office of Herzog & de Meuron. His contributions and responsibilities were extensive at all phases of design and construction. The opening of the Walker in April 2005 was met with great enthusiasm, and has been widely published. Other related project experience includes CalPoly Pomona’s Performing Arts and Digital Media Center and the Minnesota Shubert Performing Arts and Education Center.
Mr. Hoffman graduated from Washington University’s Graduate School of Architecture in August of 2005. Eric is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Washington University’s School of Architecture and is also collaborating with HOK and David Chipperfield Architects on the Saint Louis Art Museum expansion. Mr. Hoffman has received numerous honors and awards, most recently, winning second place in the 2005 Chicago Prize.
Tony A. Patterson
MArch, Washington University in Saint Louis
BArch, University of Arkansas
After graduating from the University of Arkansas in 2000, Tony Patterson worked in the acclaimed office of Marlon Blackwell Architect in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Several of these projects have been regionally and nationally recognized. Of particular interest, the Gentry City Center involved the renovation of two existing historic structures and features a Public Library, Senior Citizen Center, City History Museum, adjacent ‘pocket-park’ and urban community plaza.
Mr. Patterson graduated from Washington University’s Graduate School of Architecture in December of 2004 and received both the Hugh Ferriss and Frederick Widmann awards as the top graduating student from the School of Architecture. Tony is also currently collaborating with Brian MacKay-Lyons.
