Haptic Amplifier
1 - Language Bridge / Art as Power Function – solid map for then (static)
– stimuli for amplifying now (active)
The residence and function of Art within our society is to serve. It is to
exist as a scaleable bridge between the static, the active, and the coming
dream. It is mere map for places not traveled and a breeding ground of combination
to be tried. These are combinations whose meaning is active, learning, and
guiding our evolution based on more than pragmatism and less than desire.
This is the value, and it is in “changing states”. It is for amplifying
our dormant sense of moment recognition. Our purpose is to reintroduce contemporary
social life as center, rather than product, and to imbed it into unsupportive
typologies (comodified daily life).
What we believe:
The utilization of Visual Art can construct un-built bridges, remove barriers,
and dislodge blocks limiting the progression of contemporary language and
understanding.
2 – BCA’ Service - communication / expand language / promote dialogue
/ engage complex issues
We view the BCA more as a safe keeping incubator than as a practical organization.
It is the social function of the BCA to act as a societal agent serving to
develop new modes for understanding. Each programmatic development is meant
to execute and empower the tactile/haptic. The premises of these configurations
are to twist conception and offer multiple media/medium responses simultaneously.
Kant would say that the only vehicle to the unknown world (anything outside
our immediate and in this case haptic experiences) is through reason. We are
facilitating this type of expansion through vibrant channels of interactivity.
3 - Increasing the BCA’ locus of influence | Introducing New programmatics
Kiosk / projector
BCA brand is cemented through iconizing the historic cupola. Here it is restored
to its original function and positioned as landmark. The cupola becomes an
outfitted device for projection servicing the theater screen.
Theater / park
This plaza incision operates in two postures depending on the event status
of the BCA. The more common use will be as a dynamic, undulating, and serene
park like setting. During the theater or public addresses this area would
be used for outdoor seating and would be able to facilitate stage plays, dance,
music public addresses and late night movie theaters.
Rear patio deck
The shed roof of the lower building is to be converted to an outdoor deck
suitable for small music venues, receptions, and exclusive staging.
Information center
This building is a direct response to one of the most critical components
of the campus, increasing the presence of the BCA and reinforcing its purpose,
contributions and visibility. This is not meant to be a destination itself
but rather a portal to rest of the campus..
