Flagship
Have you seen the two masts of the ship that docked at the corner of Clarendon
and Tremont streets? Maybe it's the "Mayflower"? No. This is the
BCA ship that came home to dock.
"Flagship" is a sculptural composition with white plastic covered
taut steel ropes supporting and counterbalancing a metal pole. At the top
of the metal pole there is a luminescent rostrum (the beaked prow of an ancient
galley) with the BCA flag, which can rotate weather-vane style.
The ship's deck (among the trees) is a place for relaxation. The lighting
of the composition's constituents illuminates the BCA Plaza. The Plaza, paved
with brick, forms a water pattern. In the Plaza there are two smaller, single-mast
ships that will be laid out in light granite instead of brick.
At the intersection of three streets: Warren Ave., Tremont St. and Berkley
St., I propose to place a functional kiosk that is lop-sided -BCA7s own "Tower
of Pisa".
