CYCLO.VERT
Built in 1884, the original Cyclorama was a virtual reality mechanism that
used technology to appreciate the past as it brought to life the Battle of
Gettysburg. CYCLO.VERT is a ferris wheel. It is a mechanism that reveals the
architectural expression of the historic Cyclorama back into the urban fabric,
once again. Urban change forgot the past and buried the domed form behind
another façade. CYCLO.VERT allows for a coexistence of built histories
as the observer interacts through the new views. The perceived BCA plaza expansion
has superimposed itself onto the entire city.
An underlying intention of the Cyclorama was to provide a surreal experience.
CYCLO.VERT embraces this notion of creating an experience more breath-taking
than its built form. The uninterrupted 180 degree majestic views from the
glass pods lay out Boston’s urban life in an unprecedented manner.
CYCLO.VERT provides the BCA a major attraction as the plaza becomes a city
node, a destination, the place to go in Boston for tourists, locals, families
and dates. As a result, this beautiful kinetic sculpture will be the brand
of the BCA.
FINANCIAL PROJECTION
Located in the populated Northeast region and having a vibrant tourism crowd
to the city, CYCLO.VERT has the potential to generate a huge profit for the
BCA through ticket sales. Over the course of time, this financial income could
help pay for the initial construction costs and more importantly could help
fund future art projects to promote the BCA’s culture.
