Light in the air
The existing buildings and open space cannot give an impression that inside
the building there generates the arts and education. Maybe, it is because
that the building and open space are well fitted to the surroundings, thus
the scenary of the site is similar with any other place in Boston. So, as
an alien element saying that it is a place of arts and creation, and preserving
the existing context as well, I propose grafting the lighting structure and
dynamic installation of plants. The lighting structure is consist of the draped
LED, and this LED absorbs the sunlight at day and emit the light at night.
Thus with this lighting LED, this structure becomes the landmark both at day
and night. And contrasting with the natural landmarks, two trees, the lighting
structure tells the relationship between the nature and the artificiality.
The dynamic installation of plants has a different way of 'enclosuring'. It
is possible by enclosuring on the height of second floor, and on the ground
level, I just claim the psychological enclosure. The metal wires and plants
enabling the enclosure function as a sign to show the programs by connecting
to the programs' entrance with the installation. Maintaining the existing
paving material and replacing the kiosk with the lighting structure, and enclosuring
on a higher level, I expect the originality in this site maintaining the context
as well.
