Glowing Plaza
This design provides a plaza, sidewalk, entry markers, and artists’
courtyard that are functional for your program, compatible with the historic
neighborhood, and expressive of the BCA future.
Glowing Plaza
The glowing plaza is a manufactured glass paver and precast concrete panel
system. It is similar to the historic 1800's bullet glass sidewalk panels.
The tinted concrete between the 6" square glass pavers has electronic
heating coils to melt snow. The finish meets handicapped requirements. The
panel system supports heavy trucks. The glowing plaza is lit by LED Color
Blast 12 waterproof, low voltage, energy efficient fixtures located in the
shallow crawl space under the plaza.
Sidewalk
The red brick sidewalk is continued around the BCA campus block. It relates
to the surrounding neighborhood, and reflects the red brick of the buildings.
Along Warren Avenue the green planting beds are extended. The continuous granite
bench enlivens Tremont Street and the plaza.
Entry Markers
The entry markers are metal framed glass panels. The display graphics include
location maps, list of enterprises, and events information that can be reprinted
and changed. The relocated kiosk has display panels and the ATM. The building
marques are metal to harmonize with the Calderwood. The utility boxes painted
by artists become decorative accents.
Artists’ Courtyard
The courtyard is returned to the artists for work, relaxation, and displays.
The shed is demolished; condenser is shifted and surrounded by acoustical
wall; fence with gate divides activity area from parking / delivery. The artists’
building is decorated with LED lights programmed for multi-colored patterns.
